Harm Reduction Program

Boyle County Health Department offers the Syringe Exchange Program

The syringe exchange program is a service that allows injecting drug users to obtain hypodermic needles and associated paraphernalia at no cost. It is based on the philosophy of harm reduction that attempts to reduce the risk factors for diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. While the syringe exchange programs provide most or all equipment free of charge, it also require service users to return used syringes to receive an equal number of new syringes

In addition to sterile needles, syringe-exchange program typically offer services such as HIV and Hepatitis C testing; along with Hepatitis A vaccine at little to no cost.  Boyle County offers  bleach water aluminum “cookers”; Wound Care kits which contain Band aids, alcohol pads, gauze, and antibiotic ointment cream; containers for needles(Biohazard Containers), cotton and tourniquets.

The Syringe Exchange is offered during normal work hours
